ROB JULIANO STUPENDOUS AT SAND BARRENS *************** Lazarchick takes regular season points!

It was a cool morning with gusts of wind. The smallest field in OCAGA tournament history (7) played Sand Barrens on the closing day of the 2014 Regular Season. Glen Chabotar needed a bigger field to make the final four. Before the math was done he was told he might not have enough point even with a win. Indeed, with a win and closest to the pin, he would fall a point short if Mike Unger came in last!

Watching the battle, the Godfather sipped Amaro Fernet Branca.  He held his glass high, “This one is for Rob!” Next year he thought. The young stud Rob Juliano would be a force that would bring glory back to the Italian Bistro. The early lead low gross was held by Lazarchick with a 43 on the north course. Hamm posted a 44 on the Scorecard and Rob came in at 47. Scotty Shaw took the three points for closest to the pin on #9 and signed relief knowing he was now in the championship. The subsequent birdie gave him a 46 on the front. Glen Chabotar holding the high handicap was respectable with a 52. Marc Bohan was way off his game struggling for a 54 and Mike Unger was looking at high score with a 59.

Out of the gate on the west course, Rob Juliano dropped a sweet putt for Birdie. The Godfather told Bruno to by a round for the patrons. He could feel the energy. On the tough #5 hold, Rob dropped a beauty for par. Hamm took a 7 and Lazarchick faltered to a snowman. The subsequent par on #6 with Hamm and Lazarchick each taking a double, was sealing a clutch finish! Lazarchick picked up 4 strokes on the final three holes. Hamm took back 3. Not enough! Rob Juliano beat the final four contenders and to the Godfather, it was a forecast of  a brilliant future.

Juliano net 74, Hamm net 75, Lazarchick net 76, Chabotar net 76, Shaw net 82, Unger net 85, Bohan net 94 (not a typo!)

Lazarchick took the point total. Can he beat the 2nd place jinx?  Hamm is the reigning two time Champ. Shaw had the lowest score in a tournament this year. Unger is getting a lot of strokes. You call it!

The Hanko Memorial will pair the highest handicap with lowest. The format will be 6 holes best ball, 6 holes alternate shot and finish with a six hole scramble.
